WHAT LEAD YOU TO WORK WITH GARUT FOR INNERSECTION? My wife and I recently had a baby and joined Facebook to keep in touch and I stumbled across Innersection. It looked like something that could be good for Garut. I've worked with Garut for years and have always got sick clips of him since he was about 15. I haven't really been filming anything the last year, as I've been focused on making it possible to build surfboards here in bali now. But I thought it was a good chance to get Garut out there a bit more. The kid does rip.

WHAT WAS YOUR GENERAL APPROACH TO MAKING THIS? WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THE FOOTAGE IS NEW? At first it was just a idea that we kept talking about, and than when Nathan called us out the X Factor on the Innersection blog. We knew we would have to do somthing. We just pulled all the footage we could together from late last year. All the stuff in the beginning part at the Bali beachbreak was in about 3 days of filming last week with a couple older clips thrown in. We're pretty much winging it.

WHERE DOES MOST OF THE SURFING TAKE PLACE? Bali, Outer Islands. Some spots everybody knows and others nobody knows. We threw in a little West Oz from a trip we did last year with Sean Moody for Bud Light. Bud guys thought Garut looked to young to push beer, so he never got any clips in their movie.

WHAT CAMERA WERE YOU FILMING WITH? All sorts. It's kinda like Taylor's older movies: PAL, NTSC, DV, HD. Just a mix of everything. It took a bit of time to format everything.

HOW INVOLVED WAS GARUT IN THE EDIT PROCESS? At first he just said, "Yeah, do it, Pete." But than i kept showing him clips and getting him fired up and at the end, he was filming for a few days in a row and bringing the clips to me.

ANYTHING YOU WANT US TO WATCH FOR IN THE SECTION SOME SUBTLE BIT WE MIGHT OTHERWISE MISS? He dosn't go right. He didn't have too many strong backside clips as of now. When he did go right, he was always trying to do flips and airs...the backhand part will be in the re-edit.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE SECTION'S STRONGEST FEATURE? The waves and his raw talent. Everybody in Indo knows Garut, but outside of here his profile is light. He's the first genaration of baliense groomed talent. He's been sponsored since 12 and always had good boards. He just needs to get out there a bit more. This is a perfect project for someone like him.

WHAT DOES THE SECTION TELL US ABOUT THE GARUT AS A PERSON? We went super light on lifestyle. We wanted to qualify on talent. If we do qualify, we'll break out the p2, block of ice and a smoke machine.

IF YOU QUALIFY FOR THE DVD, DO YOU HAVE A PLAN TO GO BACK TO WORK ON THE SECTION? Of course. You won't see anything thats in there now. Rip Curl has the Indies Trader 2 parked in Benoa Harbor right now, getting ready for a 6 month journey across indo. I'm sure were gonna score the best breaks in the biggest swells this year.

KILIAN GARLAND: surfs good...wasnt feeling the song or edit.needs more combos.not top 5 material.

DYLAN GRAVES: a suRprise top 5 finish....editing, clips,song. all good. might be tough in later rounds but out of this batch, one of the best.

NAT YOUNG: sick edit...soild surfing.i liked the song.the lane does suck for video. nat should make the top 5.

OWEN WRIGHT: sick edit...like the stills and party pics.marlon has a sick frontside hack.maybe him and lee wilson should share a song.

NATE TYLER: song and edit were sick.strong section.....really liked the editing.liked the slow mos. needs some death pits tho

MATT WILKINSON: i was on this trip with wilko...he guy is a serious underground talent. i didnt know how good he surfed til i saw for myself...super strong backside. pretty much as good as owen.in my top 5.

STERLING SPENCER: loved the mock of MC....all time ,thought he was surfing pretty good.needs barrels and soild waves.

DEDE SURYANA: dede s ripping for sure.does need differnt waves,i think differnt song as well.but,yes dede can deliever the clips,where ever.

JEFF LUKASIK: A+ for effort...couple crazy airs but edit and song suck.its classic jeff has sat in front of computer for 2 days and clicked on his section 4000 times.

MIKALA JONES: one of my favorite edits.best waves of any section.mj all day.
