Brad Gerlach tells it like it is. A former world #2, big wave champion and coach to the stars, behind his razorblade wit there is always a dagger of honesty. And when it comes to surfing, he is very serious.
Between his waterman credentials and his bone-dry truthiness, Brad's comments seemed of special relevance to this project. We thought we'd share some highlights. Maybe they'll lead you back to give a section a second look. —NM
MARLON GERBER: Good song, good editing, a bit too much at times though. Great cutback, but there is something about his surfing that isn't mature yet. He could be tighter and more powerful. Give it a 5.5
OWEN WRIGHT: Surfing is good, but I feel like i've seen it before. This doesn't raise my pulse. Perhaps because he's too lanky? I don't know, the song was boring. I won't watch clip again. Rate it a 7.5
KILIAN GARLAND: Surfing is good of course, but not amazing. Song is cool, but not my cup of tea for a surf part. I give it a 4.5
BILLY KEAN: Billy surfs decent, but not like a superstar. Waves look super fun in his section. 4
GARUT WIDIARTA: He's very committed on every turn which makes this part decent. I'm not a big fan of his style, too much extra stuff going on. Song is good, though.
TAYLOR KNOX: Knox is always fun to watch. He's got such an amazing carve/cutback. I never get sick of watching that. I'm glad there is no new school shit either. He sticks to his strengths. I'll def watch again.
SHAUN CANSDELL: He's one of my favorite surfers but the part doesn't do him justice. some of the airs are small. He's amazing in the water. I may watch again though. Music is okay, too.
DYLAN GRAVES: waves are good, surfing is good, music is good... I won't watch it again though.
NAT YOUNG: Nat surfs good and his section is alright to watch. I don't think I'll watch it again though. I didn't like the music and the slow mo that much. My favorite part was the big carves on the rights.
