Some spots have just been filmed to death. Seeing them on video just doesn’t feel fresh anymore.


I don’t know. Maybe you like re-runs. Maybe you like comfort food. Maybe you’ll still vote for footage that surfs like mom’s apple pie. But Taylor won’t.


This morning he sent me a list of spots he’s dying NOT to see any more of.


“I’ve seen them so much I am numb to the good surfing they produce,” he wrote. “But I have a feeling they will make it into a lot of section. Yawn.”


Every wave is unique. It produces new approaches and unexpected lines. They’re just so much more intriguing to watch, and half the time you’re just going, “Damn, where is that spot?” And that’s part of the fun.


So if you’re currently editing a section from one of these tried-and-true footage machines, um, might wanna turn it black and white or something. Time is running out…but El Nino is still working overtime for you.


Here’s Taylor’s “un-wish” list:


LANCE’S RIGHTS: Bruce Irons closed the door on this one for me with Bruce Movie & Campaign 1.


MACARONIS: Seems like everyone has stuff here. Yet Ry (Young Guns 3) alone has killed this one for everyone that follows.


TRESTLES: The Momentum Generation to Jordy have all had it in sections. Let the wave rest already.


KERAMAS: Andy Irons pretty much shut it down in big waves (Trilogy) and Taj Burrows burned down the place on head high stuff (Stranger than Fiction).


SNAPPER ROCKS: Coolie kids (Parko, Mick and Dingo) own the license here with every section they ever had.


So there you go. If you’re going to include these spots, better be raising the bar on the above mentioned sections. Good luck.
