NAME: Ryan Moss
AGE:
26
LOCATION:
Northern California
INNERSECTION SURFER:
Nat Young
PREVIOUS PROJECTS:
I do all the filming and editing for Fox Head Inc. Webisodes and surfing portion for the shop loops. I have to thank Chris Drummy for taking me under his wing on that   one. I also work with Geoff Armstrong of DNA Beverage Corp. on various MX videos as well as Chris Wyman from Kaenon Polarized on various projects.

WHAT LED YOU TO WORK WITH NAT FOR INNERSECTION?
I met Nat a couple years back in Hawaii just after he had won the CWC. The first thing that caught my attention about Nat was his work ethic in and out of the water. The kid is a machine. I have seen him surf for six hours straight one day. We became better friends over the past year and he approached me on the project. Without hesitation, I said yes.

WHAT WAS YOUR GENERAL APPROACH TO MAKING THIS?
My first thought was s@^# we only have three months to pull this thing together, then he's leaving to OZ. The general approach was film as much as possible, play it safe shooting from land. Get artsy after we have a stable foundation. I didn't shoot in the water as much as I would have liked, but the shots I did get from the water are special to me. All the footage is new — nothing more than 6 months old.

WHERE DOES MOST OF THE SURFING TAKE PLACE?
The entire section was shot in Santa Cruz. The Lane, Scott's Creek, Santa Cruz Harbor, the wharf.

WHAT CAMERA WERE YOU FILMING WITH?
I shot everything with the Canon 7D. That camera is amazing by far my favorite piece of equipment besides my SPL Waterhousing.

WHO PICKED THE MUSIC?
I had an idea, but once I realized the music didn't fit the section, Nat and his mom picked out the song. Everything is supposed to be new and fresh, and I never heard of the band before so I figured it met the requirements.

HOW INVOLVED WAS NAT IN THE EDIT PROCESS?
Nat was really involved. I would edit all night and show him the section as it evolved and he would give me feedback on it. Whether it was to cut a wave, change the coloring or filter effect. It's important to get feedback from the surfers because they are the ones who know "what's hot and what's not".

ANYTHING YOU WANT US TO WATCH FOR IN THE SECTION
? The attention to the rack focus. Just kidding. I think it will speak for it self.

WHAT IS THE SECTION'S STRONGEST FEATURE?
Nat’s surfing. I can't really edit or shoot, so we're relying on him pulling all the weight.

WHAT DOES THE SECTION TELL US ABOUT NAT YOUNG AS A PERSON?
That he is a solid, up-and-coming surfer. Everyone see’s him as a competitive machine and rarely get to appreciate what he can without the neon jersey.

IF YOU QUALIFY, DO YOU HAVE A PLAN TO GO BACK TO WORK ON THE SECTION?
Of course, was that really ever an option? Dane and those guys have been probably working on their parts forever. Everything will get better as the competition will feed off of each other.

WHO ELSE CONTRIBUTED TO THE MAKING OF THIS SECTION?
I have to thank Sean from SPL Waterhousings for helping me dial in my equipment. Nat and Rosie Young for their guidance and dedication to this project. Rosie also helped film a second angle on most of the days. My parents and friends always were willing to help critique the section and tell me what I could do better.

ANYONE YOU NEED TO CREDIT?
Jason Kenworthy and Curtis Graham from Nike 6.0, Lucas Wimer from Nike 6.0 (videographer for Bali footage); Additional Filmer: Rosie Young; Director of Photography/ Photographer: Miranda Emanuel
