Upon seeing Josh Kerr's section this round, our first instinct was that this was the best surfing on Innersection so far.

Not the best "section" maybe...but the best surfing. Yes. 

Then we started watching the others and got all confused: Pat Gudauskas and Dillon Perillo both delivered a solid full package section, John and Clay had serious juice and intensity to all their waves, Ozzy was the most artistic, Dean Morrison and Ry Craike were mixing star power and great waves...would Kerr's aerial innovations and sketch-ball slab-weaving be under-appreciated?

Nope. Turns out, our first instinct was kerr-ect. —NM  

INNESECTION: CONGRATULATIONS, YOU JUST WON YOUR ROUND.
JOSH KERR: Shut up. No way. Mean. I thought John John was gonna win for sure.

I THINK AUSTRALIA CAME TO YOUR SUPPORT...MAYBE HAWAII GOT DIVIDED WITH TWO TOP CONTENDERS. WHO KNOWS.
Awesome. Stoked. It was hard to decide what to use. I didn't wanna use up all my best clips, so I just went with six good sessions.

SO, YOU'RE HOLDING BACK CLIPS?
Yeah, for the final Innersection and for my movie. I've been employing a filmer for a year and a half so that help.

AND BEING OFF TOUR MUST HELP, TOO.
Yeah, I was in Bali for three months, so that helps. Hard not to get clips in Bali. You can shoot every day and you can always find a place that's fun, no matter what the swell is doing.

WERE YOU WATCHING THE WHOLE ROUND OF INNERSECTION.
I was actually pretty into it. During the ratings, it was cool to watch people going past each other. Some great surfing. I was like, "wow, this is a really hard round to have entered." 

DID YOU HAVE SOME FAVORITES?
Quite a few. I was stoked on Pat G, John John, Clay, Ozzy...then, Marlon's was sick, Dillon Perillo. Ian Walsh. Ry Craike. All of them had something pretty good in there, but those were all really solid ones.

WELL, THAT'S PRETTY MUCH THE TOP TEN LIST, ONCE WE IMPLEMENTED OUR JUDGING SYSTEM. 
Yeah, I was a little concerned about that, and then I saw the way the judging when down and I was pretty stoked. That seems to make a lot of sense. That's really good.

YEAH, WE WANT PEOPLE DECIDING THIS, AND NOT COMPUTERS. IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT ANY OF THE OTHER CLIPS, THEN YOU SHOULDN'T BE DECIDING. LIKE, MARLON DIDN'T HAVE AS MANY CLICKS, BUT THE PEOPLE WHO'D SEEN ALL THE SECTIONS AGREED IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST. 
For sure, that was a sick section. Definitely deserved to be in the top ten.

I GOT SOME ANGRY LETTERS AND I LOOKED UP THE PERSON'S ACCOUNT AND SAW THAT THEY'D WATCHED ONLY ONE SECTION ON THE SITE. I WAS LIKE, HOW CAN YOU EVEN BE CALLING ME OUT ON THIS? 
Yeah, they got real quiet after that, huh?

SO, HOW WAS YOUR FEEDBACK FROM THE SITE?
It was all pretty positive. I've never really had that sort of feedback. You don't really have that in surfing, so it was great to see everyone getting all pumped on it. The guy who films for me, Jimmy Graham, he did a really good job editing it, just in the short period he had.

HE'S PRETTY YOUNG, HUH?
He's only 18.

SO, FILMED BY JIMMY, DIRECTED BY JOSH?
Yeah, I'd let him do it, then go back and see what he's done and say, Nah, you need to swap that out, switch those things, do that...he surfs, but he more just froths and filming and watching surf vids. I wanted my approach to it, with putting sessions together. No random one-turn clips. No random sessions. I wanted there to be a few waves from each session so they felt like actual sessions. Two or three waves from six sessions...that's basically how it put it together.

ARE YOU DOING THE KUSTOM AIRSTRIKE EVENT TOO?
I've just put up a few, but nothing to crazy yet. I'd like to put up the last maneuver from my Innersection on there, but not sure if I'm gonna or not yet. I was kinda stoked on that one.

SO, I'VE GOT A CRITIC ON YOUR SECTION: WHERE'S THE THEME?? NOTHING BUT WALKING DOWN THE BEACH SHOTS...YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THAT?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I wanted to but just kinda ran out of time. But I've definitely got some ideas for the DVD. We've already been talking up some ideas. If we're gonna do it, we wanna do it full on.

THAT'S GREAT TO HEAR. IT'S GOOD TO QUALIFY NOT BEING %100...CAUSE THEN YOU HAVE SOME SURPRISES TO PULL OUT ON THE DVD. LIKE PETER DEVRIES SECTION, HIS FELT SO RIGHT TO ME...I WONDER HOW HE'S GOING TO IMPROVE HIS THEME BEYOND THE SCENERY HE ALREADY HAD.
I think he needs to wrestle a bear. He get into all the shots with the animals. Swim with the orcas, kill the bald eagle and make a hat from it. (laughs)

[At this point in the conversation, Josh revealed some really cool ideas for his final section's lifestyle footage...but I'm not going to ruin it for you.]

THE SURFING IN YOUR SECTION WAS PRETTY UNDENIABLE.
Yeah, but there were lots of good sections. Lot of those would have qualified in an earlier round if they'd entered.

I TRIED TO TOLD THEM.
Next round could be heavy. I wonder if Jordy and them are gonna enter.

WELL, THEY'VE BEEN MUMBLING ABOUT IT. WE'LL SEE IF THEY CAN GET IT TOGETHER. DANE CAN GOOF OFF ON HIS BISQUIT AND GET MORE TRAFFIC THAN SURFLINE...SO I DON'T THINK HE'D HAVE MUCH TROUBLE QUALIFYING. 
I got man-love for that guy, too. (laughs) 

OKAY, SO ON YOUR [SHALLOW LEFT-HAND INDO WAVE NO ONE CAN EVER NAME CAUSE IT'S SOOOO SECRET]  WAVES, WAS OZZY WRIGHT AND IAN THERE ON SAME DAY? CAUSE IT LOOKED LIKE IT TO ME.
Yeah, they were. That day was epic. So many of the boys were out there.

I THINK CRAIG ANDERSON WAS FILMING FOR HIS FINAL PART THAT DAY.
Yeah, he was with us. He'll be bummed. I've got all that footage as a session in my movie from a different angle.

WHEN'S YOUR MOVIE COMING OUT?
Mid-November. So we're already starting to edit a bit, and gonna go to Costa Rica for a few more stuff. And I'm locking away a few sessions for Innersection. I'm looking for six sections with 2-3 waves from each one. That's what I like to watch, so that's how I try to edit.

YOU BEEN ENJOYING LIFE MORE SINCE DROPPIG THE TOUR.
For sure. No commitments. Hang in Bali for three months. I'm in the states for 4 months. Mex and Costa when there's waves. That's the dream right there, right?

DO YOU EVER THINK ABOUT A WORLD TITLE?
I think that's a bit out of my reach, I think (laughs), but I miss the tour when there's good waves. It's always good to beat those guys, so you dream of getting in on a man-on-man heat when the waves are pumping and trying to beat them. But it's nice to pick and choose. It's more what I want to do.

WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT 100K, WHAT COMES TO MIND: IS IT A HOUSE PAYMENT OR A FERRARI?
There's definitely a really good toy in there. I wouldn't spend it all on a toy, but I'd probably go 50/50. I mean, after taxes it's only $50k anyway. 

YOU KNOW THE $100K IS IN INDONESIAN RUPIAH, RIGHT?
Well, then I'd probably buy a nice cocktail at Ku-De-Ta. 

ACTUALLY, THE ROUND IS ON YOU...SO IF YOU NEED ME TO LOAN YOU SOMETHING, WELL, I CAN'T.
